Advice and construction management

If you want advice, for example, about drawing up contracts and tender specifications for a refit or new construction, then there is enough know-how within Marine Surveyors and Consulting Engineers Van Pelt & Co B.V. to help and assist you.

Furthermore, you can come to us for advice in case of repairs, drawing up maintenance plans, renting and hiring reports etc..

Over the past number of years we have built up a great deal of experience in the field of construction management, both for refitting ships, for example from a motor-driven river barge to motor-tanker or vice-versa, and also for entire new construction projects. Even from laying the keel to trials on water. Over the past few years various new construction projects have already been managed by our office both in The Netherlands and abroad. In Werkendam we have completed our work of the fifth consecutive new construction management project of new dry cargo ships; our services have also been utilised elsewhere in the country.

A few years ago we completed a construction management in the Province of Groningen for the new construction of a chemical tanker, in which case as a result of circumstances that can’t be specified in more detail, parties had entered into conflict just after laying the keel. Eventually the ship was built and completed to the customer’s complete satisfaction thanks to our specialist management.

Because we own various items of equipment it is possible for us to carry out steel thickness measurements, paint thickness measurements, noise level measurements and even take moisture readings. Nowadays in the modern world these are now indispensable disciplines for correctly performing management of a new construction.

Propeller shafts
With renewal of the certificate after 01 January 2015, all the shaft ceilingducts of rudder stocks and of (propeller)shafts need to be conducted, so, that no water polluted lubricants can come out. This means that, also for existing ships, rudder stocks and propeller shafts should provide an outer seal. We advise you, when a rudder stock or propeller shaft must be disassembled for example (damage)repair, to use the opportunity to place an outer seal, including any modification of the rudder stock or propeller shaft.
